At the End of The Leash

Every morning I pass people and their dogs on their walk, and I catch myself making up stories about them. What is this dog like at home? What voice does the owner use when they talk to him? And what does the owner think he sounds like when he answers?

I've been a veterinarian for more than 25 years. I've met thousands of owners and heard their stories, but in the exam room I've always known the story doesn't end there. I find myself imagining the life at home, what happens each day once they leave.

I'm also a photographer, and I love photographing dogs: their curiosity, the looks they give you, the chance to stop a moment in time. So I started this project. I photograph dogs I meet on the sidewalk, and I ask their owners to tell me, in their own words, what they actually hear from the friend at the end of the leash.

Just dogs,  photographed from their height with real answers from the people holding the other end of the leash.  No owners faces,  just their legs and leashes.  Dogs are the subject.
